Wenchang Pavilion

文昌閣

About

Standing as the spiritual heart of the Wenchang Palace complex, this multi-story pavilion was historically the most vibrant Taoist center in Ciqikou. Dedicated to the God of Literature, it served as a sacred gathering place for students and scholars praying for success in imperial exams. Its unique layout faces southeast toward the Jialing River, breaking traditional symmetry to embrace the local 'feng shui'.

Tip

💡

Look for the unique orientation of the gates, which are intentionally tilted to face the river. It's an excellent spot to learn about the 'Nine Palaces and Eighteen Temples' that once defined Ciqikou's religious landscape.
